Every circumstance is to be taken as a gift, not an opportunity for gain. . That was this morning's sermon at @pacificcrossroads out of Ecclesiastes -- and reminded me of this moment on the trail when the rapidly changing light kept revealing new beauty in the rocks, water, and trees. . @christine.gabrielse.lin and I naturally had to stop and take photos and make @eefanatic wait for us :) . 📸📆 28 July 2018

First real visit to San Diego was a success: besides the pretty views pictured, there was copious dancing, wedding festivities, visiting random architectural achievements, and risking my life to snorkel through a cave -- all with the best crew of friends one could ask for!

Although last weekend's backpacking included two of the most iconic alpine lakes in the Sierras, my favorite places were these nameless ponds, reached by no trail, touched by no signs of humans, high above the comparatively busy beautiful valleys where we camped. This is wilderness.
